The Ketogenic Diet

Seemingly out of nowhere, the Ketogenic diet (“keto”) has become the hottest dietary trend in the fitness world. But what is it? How does it work? And how is it done?

What is it?

Keto is, in essence, your body running on fat. Although carbs, fats, and proteins all provide energy for the body, they’re all used differently. Keto capitalizes on these differences – and some biological science – to deliver your body energy without carbohydrates.
How does it work?

The keto diet works through the process from which it derives its name: ketosis – which is a metabolic state. Ketosis occurs when carbs are in such low quantities that the body must rely on fat, and molecules known as ketones, for energy.

Ketones are simply molecules created by the liver when carbs are overly depleted. Ordinarily, the liver has a rich supply of sugar, which acts as a spare store of energy for the body. When you deprive your body of carbs, your liver releases some this stored sugar to the brain to allow for normal functioning.

In the absence of this sugar, the liver has a hard time processing certain digestive enzymes – so it converts them into molecules known as ketones. Finally, these ketones are set free in the bloodstream to be used as a source of energy, leaving the body in state known as ketosis.

So, how is it done?

Remember that the keto diet is high in fat, moderate in protein, and very low in carbohydrate. For best results, we recommend a daily caloric intake of: 75% fat, 20-25% protein, and less than 5% carbohydrates. Also make sure not to overdo it with protein, as excess protein can also throw the body out of ketosis.

The keto diet can be challenging, particularly for those accustomed to high-carb diets who are looking for a change but not sure where to start. Fortunately, supplements help significantly. Energy boosters like AminoFocus and AminoLean, used in moderation, can help those who are transitioning into the keto diet maintain their energy. Weight loss supplements, like Quadralean and Quadralean Thermogenic, help suppress appetite, which may aid in reducing cravings.

Finally, RSP’s brand new supplement – Keto BHB – is designed specifically to deliver the body high-quality, vegetable-based ketones. These naturally occurring ketones not only help the body maintain ketosis, but also expedite the process of transitioning into a keto diet.

Although keto isn’t always easy, it doesn’t have to be hard with Keto BHB!
