Grocery shopping when you’re working hard to stay on your nutritional plan can be daunting - especially if you’re overwhelmed by all of the options on the shelves! It’s important to fuel your body with high-quality food so you have the energy to not only make it through your day, but to also hit the gym. 

 

To help you simplify things, I’ve done the hard work of wandering around Whole Foods for you to create a list of my top 6 fit foods for you to buy:


Rotisserie chicken - I’m starting the list off with a game-changer for not only meal prep, but also healthy meals that you can put together at the last second. Rotisserie chickens offer the easy of just cutting, pulling, or shredding chicken from the bird - no cooking or thinking! You’ll be amazed by how little this meal short-cut costs and how much mileage you can get out of one. I like to use rotisserie chickens for white chicken chili, tacos (add taco seasoning), and on top of salads. 

 

Fage Total 0% Plain Greek Yogurt - Greek yogurt is a versatile ingredient. It can be used as a base for dips, a replacement for sour cream, in baked goods, and mixed with fruit and honey for a parfait. My favorite recipe for a dip/spread/dressing all in one is: 8 oz. plain Greek yogurt, 1 minced cucumber, dash of garlic powder, dash of dried onions, ½ tsp fresh dill combined. It was originally intended as a sauce for salmon, but I use it on everything!


RSP Nutrition Truefit Creamy Vanilla Meal Replacement Protein Powder - This protein powder strikes a perfect balance of sweetness and vanilla flavor. It’s also vegan but somehow has the creaminess of whey protein. Magic. Try this in my Eggnog Smoothie: 1 scoop TrueFit vanilla, 1 frozen banana, dash of nutmeg, dash of cinnamon, ice as needed. 


Frozen fruit - Speaking of smoothies, Whole Foods has the most interesting and fun frozen fruit options of any store. I’m cheating a little with my “6 fit foods” number here, but you can’t miss out on options like: dragon fruit, passion fruit, acai, jackfruit, coconut, avocado, and aloe vera (okay, not a fruit, but still cool).


RSP Nutrition AminoLean - I am normally very wary of energy supplements and pre-workout drinks, but I really like this one because it doesn’t make me feel gross and shaky. It’s also sugar-free, calorie-free, and vegan. Just mix it with cold water and enjoy.


Organic Old Fashioned Rolled Oats - This is a classic that should be on every fit food list. The fiber-filled oats are also “slow carbs,” which means they digest slowly enough to keep you full and prevent a blood sugar spike and inevitable plummet. Make standard oatmeal, roll it up into energy balls, or make healthy breakfast cookies.
